“Common Sense” Design of Government

“Some writers have so confounded society with government, as to leave little or no distinction between them; whereas they are not only different, but have different origins. Society is produced by our wants, government by wickedness; the former promotes our happiness POSITIVELY by uniting our affections, the latter NEGATIVELY by restraining our vices. The one encourages intercourse, the other creates distinctions. The first is a patron, the last a punisher. ”

“Society in every state is a blessing, but government even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one;” … “Government, like dress, is the badge of lost innocence;” … “WHEREFORE, security being the true design and end of government, unanswerably follows that whatever FORM thereof appears most likely to ensure it to us, with the least expense and the greatest benefit, is preferable to all others.”

———— “Common Sense” by Thomas Paine

This represented the idea and role of government of the founding fathers as they created the Declaration of Independence. This should be the core principle behind all government and society activity. We should always think first how we can solve problems by working together in society by either starting a business or nonprofit to fill the need.  The government should only step in when dealing with other governments and to punish theft of property, services, and life.

Purpose

Watching and reading the opinions of others on the news of the day has made me realize that sometimes my view of things are not represented, or at least not represented well. This blog is to serve that purpose. I hope it feels more effective than simply talking to my TV.
